Group classes are held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1123 Vilas Ave, Madison, WI 53715. Private classes are held either at Trinity United Methodist Church or Caitlyn's home on the west side. Address to be disclosed upon sign up.
Unfortunately, the group classes do not since Wis. Stat. § 115.001(3g) states, “Home-based private educational program means a program of educational instruction provided to a child by the child’s parent or guardian or by a person designated by the parent or guardian. An instructional program provided to more than one family unit does not constitute a home-based private educational program.” (From the DPI website) But, any supplementary instruction you provide individually to your student at home in relation to content learned in class, those hours would count.
If you choose to do private instruction, then yes, those hours would count towards your 875 hours of instruction.
Caitlyn Swearingen teaches Mathematics and serves as the Program Director for Fizz and Figures. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Indiana University-Bloomington and her Master of Science in Secondary Education with a Concentration in English as a Second Language (ESL) from University of Nebraska-Omaha.
For Caitlyn, teaching starts with relationships. She believes students learn best when they feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for. She enjoys getting to know her students - their strengths, challenges, and interests - because those connections help to create a classroom where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again.
With over 10 years of teaching experience in high school mathematics, Caitlyn is especially passionate about making math accessible to all learners. She is a licensed Math and ESL Wisconsin educator and received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 from the Hmong American Peace Academy for her work teaching high school math. In her classroom, she focuses on breaking concepts down, explaining ideas in multiple ways, and meeting students where they are. Her goal is for every student to feel included and capable, no matter their starting point.
Alongside teaching, Caitlyn privately tutors math and began her own professional organizing business - Declutter Bug. She enjoys kayaking on Madison's lakes, crafting, playing with her cat Katy Purry, and enjoying time with her 4 month old son - James - whom she plans to homeschool in a few years.
Payments for group classes are made on a monthly basis. In addition, a reminder email with your invoice will be emailed one week prior to payment.
For private instruction, payment can be made on a semester or monthly basis. If paying on a monthly basis, payments are due the first of the month. If paying a semester basis, payments are due by the first class.
Classes will start the week of September 7th. Typically we start classes the second week in September (which tends to be the week after Labor Day, this year is a bit different since Labor Day falls in the second week). Here a copy of the full Fall 2026 Group Class Semester Schedule.
You can use the Google form on the math page to register for group classes. It is also included here - Math Registration form. For private instruction or tutoring, please email Caitlyn directly at cmsweari@gmail.com.
If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to Caitlyn Swearingen at cmsweari@gmail.com. I would be happy to chat with you about these classes! :)
Fizz & Figures was created when I taught both Math and Science. I've recently made the decision to discontinue teaching science for the 26-27 school year. With my son being so young, I ran out of capacity to teach science on top of being a full-time mom. If you're looking for in-person hands-on science classes for upper elementary to middle school, I suggest reaching out to Jay Farnsworth of The Curiosity Club.
